Election Post-mortem

Well, the election is over and I send President-elect Obama congratulations on his victory.  I did not support him, and we agree on very few issues.  Sen. John McCain waged a brave battle against considerable odds, and in the end came up short 52%-47%.  He was facing a strong political headwinds all year, with our country fighting two wars, in the middle of a recession and a real-estate collapse.  Despite all this, he was actually leading in mid-September when the bottom fell out of the stock and financial markets.  Then everyone starting panicking and reacting reflexively against the party in power.  To the extent Pres. Obama governs from the center, he will have my party's cooperation.  If he goes hard-left, GOP senators will block his every move.  I would like to congratulate African-American voters in California for their decisive role in voting in favor of the gay marriage ban in that state.  They voted 70%-30% in support of the proposition, wjhile Hispanics voted for it by a smaller margin.  Anyone who thinks a liberal wave swept over America should look at this vote, as well as successful efforts in Florida and Arizona.  This is just a temporary setback, and conservatives will be back to their winning ways soon...

Pickens Gets It

When I first watched oilman T. Boone Pickens commercials, and went to his website, I thought I was looking at a guy who had maybe been around too long.  He seemed be leaning too much to wind and solar.   But in a recent Senate hearing before the Homeland Security Committee, chaired by Joe Lieberman, |-Conn, he made it clear that he's for everything that isn't foreign oil.  That means drilling offshore, in ANWR, using oil shale, windfarms, solar plant, and nuclear.  Sen. John McCain is in agreement with all of it except for ANWR, and I think he'll eventually come around on that.  He's begun running ads blaming Obama for the big recent oil increases.  He is to blame, but he has company.  The whole eviro-whacko wing of the Democratic party, that has consistently blocked drilling offshore, building nuclear plants, even building oil refineries.  Not just Obama, but all of them must be stopped-- the whole scurvy crew.

VFF Strikes Back

Barack ObamaI take my hat off to Vetsforfreedom.com, a 501(c)(4) dedicated to counteracting the evil influence of moveon.org, the leading group of antiwar kooks on the Internet today.  They are dedicated to victory as much as MoveOn is dedicated to our defeat.  Sen. Obama is changing his positions so fast and furiously, he's giving his left-wing supporters whiplash.  He wonders why anyone would think he's a liberal weenie, just because he has a repulsive voting record.  After years of supporting gun control, partial-birth abortion, gay marriage, and being a big spender, we're supposed to believe he's changed on all of that.  Well, I was born at night, but not last night.  This all strains credibility to the breaking point-- he's trying to sweet-talk a few rural hunters into voting for an ardently antigun politician.  Just be what you are and what you have been for years-- a socialist.  Don't fall for this ridiculous charade.  He's hoping for the blind ignorance and gullibility of the voting public.  Click the following link to hear from a radical fellow-traveler: Obama supporter Father Michael Pfleger

Welcome to the party, Barack

It was truly illuminating seeing Sen. Barack Obama speaking about the responsibility of fathers on Father's Day.  He spoke at the Apostolic Church of God, a South Side Chicago megachurch known to me as one of the largest Pentecostal churches in America, affiliated (until recently) with the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World.  I would like to know where he has been the last few years.  It's all well and good to move to the center during an election year, but was he saying these things two years ago, or four years ago?  He's picking up Bill Cosby's line of argument, and Bill has taken all kinds of heat for those kind of comments over the years.  I wonder how many more election years conversion positions we're going to see from him?

Barack Gets A Beat-Down

For a guy who is on his way to the Democratic presidential nomination, Sen. Barack Obama sure does show a alot of weaknesses.  Hillary Clinton got 68% and thumped Obama by 41 points in West Virginia.  It looks like Obamamania is running out of steam.  Back in December, when Obama was the 'flavor of the week', I asked people who were going crazy for him, including my mother, what he stood for.  All I heard from her and others was about how handsome he was, and how great his speeches were.  No Democrat in a hundred years has won the presidency without carrying West Virginia, and Obama show great weakness here.  He is also going hammered in Kentucky next week as well, since it has similar demographics as WV.  As he limps towards the finish line, he looks more and more like Mike Dukakis, another notorious loser of 20 years past.  This was noted by no less a person the Susan Estrich, Mike Dukakis" campaign manager!

Giuliani for President, A Tested Leader

Mayor Rudi GiulianiToday, right before the Iowa Caucuses, I am announcing my pick for President of United States.  I am proud to endorse former NYC Mayor Rudi Giuliani for President.  As a conservative, I have looked carefully over all of the well-qualified GOP candidates for president, and Rudy impresses me most of all.  More than anything else, I am a national security conservative, and I am thoroughly convinced that Rudy will defend this country with determination and vigor.  He proved his metal by showing strong leadership during one of our nation's darkest hours, the 9-11 Attack on NYC's World Trade Center.  He also showed strength and determination in fighting organized crime in NY as a US Attorney under President Ronald Reagan.  We do have some differences in social issues, but he wisely promised to appoint conservative judges in the mold of Justices Scalia and Thomas.  That's good enough for me.  Other candidates, like Gov. Huckabee of Arkansas are stronger on moral issues, but go soft on law enforcement and illegal immigration.  We would all sleep more soundly with Rudy Giuliani as president in these turbulent times.
